More in this section:With a history dating back to 1828, Sweetser is one of Maine's most comprehensive behavioral healthcare organizations for children, adults and families. Sweetser offers services that address emotional disturbances, mental illnesses, behavioral disorders and learning disabilities through a network of educational programs, preventive services, community-support services, residential homes and outpatient services.
Working in more than 75 communities throughout Maine, Sweetser maintains counseling offices, a respected medical team, two schools for students with special education and emotional needs, a training institute, a recovery center and campuses in Belfast, Plymouth and Saco. More than 600 employees and hundreds of volunteers are committed to our vision of helping people create promising futures.
Sweetser has maintained national accreditation with the Council on Accreditation since the founding of the organization in the 1970s, which is essential to guaranteeing our clients the best treatment and support possible. Only eight Maine human service organizations have met the group's standards for best practice and effective administration.
