One of Sweetser's Horses Needs Special Care
Posted on 05/04/2005 at 09:29 am
In an innovative approach to working with youth, Sweetser uses animals to help children achieve small victories that play a large role in the healing process. This effort is just one example of how Sweetser's Experiential Learning Program is helping professionals reach some of Maine's most challenging youth.
But it is not just the children who have special needs. One of Ricker Farm's horses, "Macy," who has been with Sweetser since January of 2002, has a chronic lameness. Since Sweetser's horsemanship programs rely on grants that enable children to participate, there are no funds available for the diagnostics and potential corrective shoeing that will help Macy be healthy and comfortable again.
A generous gift of $500 from Beauregard Equipment has enabled us to have the diagnostics performed by our veterinarian. Once Macy's condition has been diagnosed, joint supplements and corrective shoeing could be as much as $50 to $100 each month. We hope to find the cause of Macy's lameness and hopefully eliminate it. If you would like to help fund Macy's care, please contact Sweetser's Development Office at 207-294-4482.
