Senator Susan Collins Visits the School at Sweetser in Saco

Posted on 01/31/2012 at 04:00 pm

On Friday, January 27, Senator Susan Collins visited the School at Sweetser in Saco. The senator spoke to students, faculty and administrators in the school's Lincoln Library. She noted that the library was one of her favorite places in a school because she is an avid reader.

During a lively discussion, she listened to each student's telling of their time and experience in programs at Sweetser. Senator Collins also toured the school, including the culinary arts room, where she enjoyed baked goods made by Sweetser students. She also visited "Friendly Fashions" - a classroom where students can "shop" for clothes - a typical classroom, and the art room.

At the end of her tour, the Senator was presented with gifts of appreciation for her visit, including maple syrup made on the Sweetser farm, a school calendar and cookbook, and a trivet made by students in the wood shop. She was also presented with a copy of the Sweetser magazine, which is a collection of student-written poems and stories.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Sweetser is forever in my heart for taking my brothers in, back in 1956, when my mother was so sick. I was only six years old at the time, but I remember it still.  You were very good to them. I have tried to help Sweetser whenever I could. God bless each and every one of you for all the good...
