More than 400 guests attended the 17th annual Sweetser Sold on Kids Auction at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland in May. Presented byKey Bank, the "Rainbow of Hope" auction raised in excess of $75,000 to benefit Sweetser services.
Kathy Macleod of Falmouth and Tammy White of Scarborough served as auction committee co-chairs. Other committee members include John Beliveau, Judie Clough, Betty Deegan, Michelle LaChapelle, Sandra Pardi, Meredith Richardson, Carol Thorne, David Tourangeau and William Zafirson.
Auctioneer Bill Zafirson kept bidding lively and Emcee Lee Goldberg of WCSH6 served as host. Other special guests included Ira Rosenberg, owner of Prime Motor Group; Mrs. Maine International, Kristin Walton and her husband, Bob; and Day’s Jewelers owners Jeff and Kathy Corey and Mark Ford.
The event was held in memory of Nick Macleod, son of auction co-chair Kathy Macleod and her husband, Mark. A wonderful version of the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was sung by Nick’s cousin, 11-year-old Gina Pardi.
The 50/50 raffle winner was Colleen Hilton of Westbrook and Claudia Henry of Brunswick won the Day’s Jewelers’ tourmaline necklace.
