Saco -- Sweetser is accepting applications for its 2009 summer season of “Camp Endeavor” – a recreational and remedial literacy program for children with special needs.

The first of two open house events for parents is set for Tuesday, March 31, from 6-7 p.m. at the school located at 50 Moody Street in Saco. Program staff will be available to answer questions.

“Campers in Grades K-8, who need extra support in order to have a positive summer experience, will take part in unique recreational fun on Sweetser’s 400-acre campus,” said Sweetser Physical Education Teacher Kate Winant.

The youngsters engage in physical and educational activities such as cooking, ropes courses, team-building skills, dramatic play, sports, jewelry making, arts and crafts, photography, BMX dirt biking, field trips and hiking.

The seven-weeks of activities are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., from June 29–August 14. Specialized remedial literacy instruction is also available during two summer weeks, July 20-24 and August 3-7.

The next open house is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, from 10:30 to noon. Signs directing visitors to the school’s front entrance will be posted.

For more information, contact Kate Winant, Physical Education Department, 207.294.4758 or email her at kwinant@sweetser.org. Limited scholarships are available.
