The 7th Annual Pendleton Awards were presented at the Sweetser Annual Meeting in October. The awards were established in 2003 in memory of Carlton and Irene Pendleton who were “house parents” for Sweetser youth for many years.
The award honors individuals in the area of Public Service, Community Service and Community Partnership and comes with a cash prize, payable to the honoree’s charity of choice. The 2009 award winners were:
- Don Kniseley, executive director of Tedford Housing, received the Public Service award. Tedford Housing provides shelter and long-term housing options for homeless adults and families in the greater Bath-Brunswick area. Kniseley’s cash prize will be used in one of Tedford Housing’s own programs.
- Dorothy Marecaux, special education director for the Biddeford School Department, was honored with the Community Partnership award for her commitment to a positive educational experience for every Biddeford student. Dorothy donated her cash prize to Sweetser’s Experiential Learning Program.
- Donald and Nancy Morse, of Kennebunkport, received the Community Service award in recognition of their generosity to several Sweetser programs over the years. The Morse’s donated their cash prize back to Sweetser.
