Posted on 02/11/2005 at 09:43 am
Sweetser has opened a new mental health center at 329 Bath Road in Brunswick, consolidating twelve Bath and Brunswick locations into one facility. An open house event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 16, from 5-7 p.m. The public is welcome.
More than 150 employees work at the new center, providing mental health services to residents of the southern midcoast area.
"The search for a consolidated building in this area had been ongoing since the merger of Shoreline Community Mental Health and Sweetser Children's Services in 2000," said Carl Pendleton, President & CEO of Sweetser. "We have experienced considerable growth in the midcoast area since that time, and this new building will enable us to meet the growing needs of the region for years to come."
Services provided in the new center include outpatient therapy and psychiatry, crisis services, youth enrichment programming, child case management and community support services, among others.
In keeping with the unique character of the region, the building was designed with an ocean and water theme. A water feature welcomes visitors at the main entrance, and waves of seaside colors and shapes echo throughout the building.
Renovations of the 68,000 square foot facility, previously occupied by Bath Iron Works, were designed by Gawron Turgeon Architects of Scarborough and built by Allied/Cook Construction. A portion of the building is currently leased to Gilman Electric.
