Sweetser and PROTEA Behavioral Health Services Develop Partnership

Partnership Provides and Expands Outpatient Mental Health Care in Saco and Portland

Sweetser President & CEO, Carl Pendleton, and PROTEA Behavioral Health Services CEO, Alex Tessmann, announced today that Sweetser and PROTEA have developed a unique strategic partnership to provide and expand access to outpatient therapy and psychiatry services in Portland and Saco, and across the state of Maine.

In addition to providing outpatient therapy and psychiatry services from PROTEA's existing clinical facility on Forest Avenue, through the new partnership, PROTEA will also provide these services at Sweetser's Portland and Saco offices.

"This unique partnership provides our clients with uninterrupted treatment and access to an even larger network of experts and specialized care."

With a history dating back to 1828, Sweetser is Maine's most comprehensive behavioral and mental health care organization dedicated to serving children, adults and families. Working in over 70 communities and schools, Sweetser offers services that address emotional disturbances, mental illness, behavioral disorders and learning disabilities through an array of educational programs, preventive services, community-support services and residential homes.

Established in 2001, PROTEA Behavioral Health Services is a licensed mental health agency providing mental health and substance abuse services throughout Maine. PROTEA currently has clinical offices in Bangor, Machias, Calais, Waterville, Wilton, Hallowell and Portland, and will soon be opening additional offices in Lewiston, Presque Isle, Houlton and Belfast.
