A Top-ranked Educational System
A recent study by the National Education Goals Panel ranked Maine's educational system (K-12) as number one in the nation, and another study by Education Week magazine found Maine's education system ranked among the top ten in the country for class size, school safety and parental involvement.
Due to a strong commitment from Maine's current and former governors, 100 percent of Maine school's have Internet access, and Maine was the first state in the country to provide all seventh and eighth grade students and teachers with portable, wireless computers (2002 and 2003, respectively).
Maine boasts a school completion rate that is higher than the national average at 87.2 percent (Maine Dept. of Education, 2003).
Maine is home to seven University of Maine campuses, seven community colleges as well as numerous private colleges including Colby, Bates and Bowdoin - three of the top 25 liberal arts colleges in the country.

Maine was recently rated number one in the nation "best place to raise a child" by the Children's Rights Council.
Safety
According to recent state rankings by Quitno Press, Maine is one of the safest, most crime-free states in the nation with the third lowest violent crime rate in the nation and the sixth lowest crime rate overall.
Cost of Living
Maine has the lowest average home purchase price in New England and one of the lowest in the country (Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corporation, 2004).
