Saco, Maine – The New England Eating Disorders (NEED) program became a part of Sweetser in January. The program was most recently affiliated with Mercy Hospital, and housed there since 1998.

Sweetser renovated a new home for NEED on its 380-acre Saco campus – located off Route 1 and I-95. It’s the only comprehensive eating disorders treatment program in the state. NEED’s Medical Director Patrice Lockhart, MD, and her experienced staff of therapists, nurses and dietitians are now employees of Sweetser and bring close to 150 years of collective experience to a setting that includes rolling hills, a working farm and a home-inspired setting.

“Eating disorders are serious and often fatal illnesses, which sneak into our lives in a health conscious world,” said Dr. Lockhart. “Our goal is to return patients to a life that means more than size, weight and shape.”
