Help Support Sweetser's Mission in Maine

Sweetser Affiliate Network

Sweetser’s Affiliate Program includes individual and group counseling for clients with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.

Sweetser engages independently contracting licensed clinicians who are committed to working with Mainers struggling with a mental health and/or substance use disorder. Sweetser engages these licensed professionals to serve Sweetser clients in the communities where they live and work so that quality, accessible treatment is available to clients from childhood through adulthood in all parts of the state. The independently contracting licensed professionals include social workers, physicians, counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, alcohol and drug counselors, and nurse practitioners.

The Affiliate Program is committed to a client-focused approach with the provision of high quality, community-based services in an ethical, reliable, and effective manner. Through this program, Sweetser advocates positive change in service delivery through the development of respectful relationships with clients, employees, other professionals, community, social services, and state agencies.

The Affiliate Program provides professional care for clients who do not require residential care, but who do meet the criteria for outpatient services. Individuals accepted for the treatment of chemical dependency are expected to have met the diagnostic criteria for a psychoactive substance abuse disorder, as defined in the DSM IV-TR, or other standardized and accepted diagnostic criteria.

This program offers a safe, structured, ongoing treatment program for those individuals who:

  • request treatment services as self-referrals; or
  • have recently completed community-based inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment; or
  • are referred by:
    • Department of Corrections
    • Department of Health & Human Services
    • Employee Assistance Programs
