Help Support Sweetser's Mission in Maine

Psychological Testing

Psychological Testing is administered, available at Sweetser's Brunswick, Lewiston and Rockland locations, by a licensed psychologist for children ages 6 through adult. Tests address ADHD evaluations, intellectual functioning, learning disability evaluations, behavioral assessments, and diagnostic evaluations. With the data these tests provide, we are better able to create individualized treatment programs ensuring that we meet each client’s specific needs.

Issues that can be clarified with a Psychological Assessment include:
ADHD • IQ/Intellectual Disabilities • Dementia • Developmental Disorders such as Autism Spectrum • Adaptive Functional Behavior (Vineland-II) • Learning Disabilities (when not covered by the school district) • Level of risk related to behavioral disturbance • Mood disorders; anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder or PTSD • Psychotic disorders • Clinically relevant personality traits • Treatment recommendations • Placement recommendations

What should I bring for the evaluation?
If possible, copies of any previous evaluations or assessments of any kind should be brought (e.g. psychological, psychiatric, speech and language, occupational). Children should also bring school report cards and school testing reports. You may want to bring a snack or drink.

What happens after the evaluation?
You will have a follow-up appointment with the psychologist (one hour), during which you will have the results explained to you and have the opportunity to ask questions. If requested, you will receive a copy of your report.
