This Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training, brought to you by Sweetser, Marshwood Adult Education and Kittery Adult Education, with space provided by the Kittery Community Center, is a fully cost-covered evidence-based, non-clinical skills & awareness course teaching how to:
- Recognize common signs & symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges in adolescents
- Respond to & Support youth and teens facing mental health or substance use challenges
- Intervene and de-escalate mental health crisis situations
- Connect youth and teens in need to appropriate mental health supports, including resources for Maine and US National mental healthcare options/services
- Develop & practice self-care habits (how to better support yourself to better support others!)
Taught by certified YMHFA Instructors from Sweetser, licensed through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
Completion of this training awards Youth Mental Health First Aider certification through NCMW, valid for 3 years.
Sweetser, Marshwood Adult Education, and Kittery Adult Education are offering this Youth MHFA Training on:
Wednesday, April 8th, 2026 - In-Person, 8:00am - 4:00pm (including morning, lunch, and afternoon breaks)

Training registration is First-Come, First-Served. One registration per person per email. Training participants must be 18 or older. Thanks to a federal grant through the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Sweetser offers Mental Health First Aid and other mental health awareness trainings at no cost for all who live or work in Maine through our FREE Mental Health Awareness Training program. MHFA Training can be credited on completion as 7.5 professional development hours with employer approval; this training is not eligible for credit as continuing education units (CEUs) for professional licensure in Maine.
