Description

This Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, brought to you by Sweetser and provided at no cost to participants, is a non-clinical, evidence-based certification course teaching skills for:
  • Recognizing signs & symptoms of mental health & substance use challenges in adolescents/teens
  • Responding to & supporting adolescents/teens facing mental health & substance use challenges
  • Intervention & de-escalation of mental health crisis situations
  • Connecting youth in need to appropriate mental health supports, including resources for Maine and national mental healthcare supports
  • Practicing self-care and building self-care habits (support yourself to better support others!)

Taught by certified Youth MHFA Instructors from Sweetser, licensed through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Completion of this training awards Youth Mental Health First Aider certification through NCMW, valid for 3 years.
Youth MHFA training from Sweetser is fully cost-covered, available for free to all who live or work in Maine.

Sweetser is offering this Virtual Youth MHFA training on:

  • Friday March 20, 2026
    Virtual via Microsoft Teams, 9:00am - 3:00pm
    • 2-hour online self-paced learning modules to complete before 3/20,
      followed by a 6-hour instructor-led session (webinar) on 3/20.
    • Login info for self-paced coursework & Meeting Link for 3/20 Instructor-Led Session will be provided following registration.

Training registration is First-Come, First-Served. One registration per person per email. Training participants must be 18 or older.
Thanks to a federal grant through the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Sweetser offers Youth MHFA and other trainings at no cost to Maine residents through our FREE Mental Health Awareness Training programYouth MHFA Training can be credited on completion as 6.5 professional development hours with employer approval; this training is not eligible for credit as continuing education units (CEUs) for professional licensure.
