Description

This training will focus on the Feeding and Eating Disorders category of the DSM-5 (i.e., anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder), and how they are experienced and expressed by athletes. Attendees will learn the ways in which the characteristics of an "ideal athlete" can mask one of the deadliest psychiatric disorders, anorexia nervosa. An overview of treatment approaches will be provided as well as the presenter's approach to working with eating disorders in athletes. Finally, additional emphasis will focus on important provider characteristics when working with individuals with eating disorders, including athletes, and the importance of provider self-awareness.
