Description

Substance use and addictive behavior disorders dysregulate several neurotransmitter systems within the brain. Advancements in scientific research confirm a lot of what we know, while offering greater clarity about how biological dependence develops and is maintained. This workshop will provide a broad overview of how addictions develop, including the neurologically rewarding effects of substances and addictive behaviors, and the development of seeking behaviors, effects of binge/intoxication cycles, and consequences of withdrawal. This workshop will present a neuroscientific understanding of what is going on internally as a result of engagement in addictive behaviors, including substance use, with the intent to help our clients understand what is happening.
